👶 Pre-Newborn Photoshoot Prep Guide
Helping you get ready for a calm, beautiful session
Thank you for booking your newborn session with Tammy Firth Photography! To help you prepare, here are a few tips to ensure a smooth, relaxed experience for you and your baby.
🗓️ When to Schedule
Newborn sessions are best done when baby is 5–14 days old, when they’re still very sleepy and curly. If your baby is older, don’t worry – we can still capture gorgeous images with a slightly different approach.
👜 What to Bring
- Nappies and wipes –
- Extra bottles or expressed milk if bottle-feeding
- Soother – even if baby doesn’t usually take one, it can help settle them during posing
- Spare clothes for baby and parents (accidents happen!)
- Snacks & drinks for you – make yourself comfortable!
👶 Before the Session
- Try to keep baby awake for 1–2 hours before your session if possible – a bath or gentle play can help
- Feed baby right before leaving or as soon as you arrive at the studio
- Dress baby in easy-to-remove clothing (like a zip-up sleepsuit) so we don’t disturb them when undressing
👗 What to Wear – Parents & Siblings
- Neutral tones (white, beige, grey, soft pastels) work best
- Avoid busy patterns, logos, or neon colours
- Keep it simple – you’ll be cuddling baby, and the focus should be on your connection
- For siblings, keep outfits coordinated and comfy
- Barefoot looks great in family shots – feel free to skip shoes!
📷 At the Studio
- My home studio in Kilbarrack is warm and cosy, with soothing music and plenty of time for breaks
- Sessions can last 1–3 hours, depending on baby’s mood and feeding needs
- Relax! I’ve photographed lots of newborns – I work at baby’s pace and never rush
- You’re welcome to sit back while I work my magic
💤 Don’t Stress!
Newborns cry, poop, and take their time – and that’s absolutely OK. I’m here to create a calm, loving environment so you can enjoy this special experience.
If you have any questions or special requests, just send me a message. I can't wait to meet your little one!
